What is LSZ?
Lysergic acid 2,4-Dimethylazetidide (also known as λ, Lambda and LSZ) is a synthetic psychedelic of the lysergamide chemical class that produces effects quite similar to those of LSD, but of somewhat shorter duration.
LSZ was first synthesized in the 2000s by a team led by David E. Nichols at Purdue University and gained popularity in the psychonaut community when it appeared on the market in 2012, sold on blotting paper or in liquid solution under names such as “Diazedine” “λ” (or “Lambda”)
LSZ is not considered addictive or physiologically toxic.[6][7] Nevertheless, as with all psychedelics, negative psychological reactions such as severe anxiety, paranoia and psychosis are always possible, especially in individuals with a predisposition to mental illness.[8] It is strongly recommended to apply harm reduction measures when using this substance.
Chemical properties
The polycyclic core structure of LSZ or D-lysergic acid 2,4-dimethylazetidide is an indole derivative and contains tryptamine and phenethylamine groups embedded in it. It is a semi-synthetic alkaloid of the lysergamide family and contains a core structure of lysergic acid with a functional amine group attached to RN of the chemical structure.
The structure contains a bicyclic hexahydroindole fused to a bicyclic quinoline group (lysergic acid). An amide group is attached to carbon 8 of the quinoline. In addition, substitutions of the terminal nitrogen atom of the amide group form a 2,4-dimethylazetidide group. LSZ is additionally substituted with a methyl group at carbon 6.
There are three possible stereoisomers around the azetidine ring, with the (S,S)-(+) isomer being the most active. In drug discrimination tests with trained rats, it is slightly more potent than LSD itself
Pharmacological effects
LSZ's action on 5-HT2A receptors is thought to produce psychedelic effects, but it is not clear how these interactions lead to the psychedelic experience.
